We Mourn the Passing of Bob Globerman

I am saddened to share the news of the passing of one of our very special OHS teachers, Bob Globerman.  Mr. Globerman has been on our Class of '65 mailing list for years and frequently emailed me to comment about our blog and our class. He really appreciated being included in all our news updates.  Following his tenure at OHS, Bob became an Adjunct Professor of Art and Art History at Marymount College and later took on a new career as a travel guide and author.  Although we will always remember him as a young man, Bob Globerman was 87 when he died.  Our heartfelt condolences go out to Bob's family.

We Mourn the Passing of Joe Rauschkolb

Most of us remember Joe Rauschkolb as the Assistant Principal during our time there.  However, Joe Rauschkolb was also a dedicated member and former Captain of OVAC (Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps), a former Captain of Independent Hose Co., and a former Battalion Chief with the Murrells Inlet Garden City SC Fire Department.  I personally remember getting to know Joe during my time in OVAC.  He was a great man and will be remembered fondly by students, colleagues, friends, and all of us who were fortunate enough to know him.  Condolences to the Rauschkolb family.

Coach John Covert to Be Honored With a Plaque at Track & Field Facility Named for Him at AMD

On April 11, 2015 a monument and plaque will also  be dedicated to Coach Covert.   The dedication will begin at 9:00 a.m.  and will be followed by lunch.

Congratulations, Coach Covert!  It is an honor for the Class of 1965 to call you our Coach, our teacher, and our friend.  Members of our class were on the team that Coach Covert guided to be the  #1 High School Cross Country team in the Nation in 1963.

Be sure to visit Coach Covert's website.  It is a fabulous tribute to Coach Covert and is filled with wonderful photos and information, including a biography written by New York State Supreme Court Justice W. Denis Donovan who ran for Coach Covert on the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps cross-country team and was Coach Covert's assistant while he was there.

BTW, did you know that Coach Covert graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School… and was turned down there when he applied for a job as a teacher and coach?  The rest is history!
